Our Story

Cartouche.Clothing is a French owned, L.A based Handmade clothing shop.

How Cartouche started

Cartouche was originally a vintage clothing shop. After a few years, I slowly got into sewing halters and tote bags from vintage and second hand fabric. From there, Cartouche gradually started to become and all handmade brand. I was naturally driven toward the French aesthetic by keeping a lot of gingham, stripes and farm themed fabric. As well as the idea of comfort and elevated basics. Which I have always loved from the French everyday wear. Sourcing fabric was the hardest step to take as I was so adamant to stay as sustainable as possible. Cartouche makes everything in small batch/ Made to order to avoid “left overs”.

The shop’s Environmental goal

One of the hardest thing to keep up with while making clothes is the amount of scraps you find yourself with. That’s why I use For Days which works as a take back circular recycle program. The Take Back Bag powered by Trashie is world's most convenient way to recycle old clothing and textiles. I send them two full bags every two months filled with scraps.

On another level, Cartouche works everyday in being as much plastic free as possible. Most shipping materials and thank you notes are environmentally conscious made in recycled paper. (Eco enclose) The tags are all from recycled paper and twine. Most tools and furniture for the making and our markets set ups are preloved objects. All branding is stamped on to avoid plastic stickers.

It is hard to be 100% environmentally friendly while owning a business, but I am constantly trying to stay conscious about little changes that can be made to improve our sustainability.
